About the facility
BAE Systems designed, built, launched and are now successfully operating a Science & Technology Education Portal (STEP) Facility at our Christchurch Site in April 2022 , this forms a core element of our Sustainability Plan and Social Value ambitions. This we see as an exemplar approach for the smaller BAE sites. STEP is a reconfigurable facility to allow Digital Intelligence to connect to the external community, hosting a variety of events to build deep and long lasting relationships and to support recruitment of new talent to the business.
The facility was opened by Sir Roger Carr in April and the ceremony was attended by a wide range of stakeholders including local council leaders, Bournemouth University, the Rotary Club, local school head teachers and members of the Cornerstone Education group. We have already hosted many events in support of local schools and also the Jon Egging Trust, in support of their Blue Skies Inspired Programme for disadvantaged children. We have been able to provide some life changing moments to young children in the local area and continue with a programme of events supporting the local community and education.
