The group is chaired by Chloe Rowland from the University of Plymouth who has developed a fantastic line up of speakers for this first briefing style event. 11 05 – 11 15 Welcome and Introductions by SIG chair | Chloe Rowland | Project and Knowledge Exchange Manager

Chloe Rowland is on the Steering Group for the SWRDSC and is overseeing delivery of the Cyber Security Special Interest Group. She is an experienced Project and Knowledge Exchange Manager, having worked at the University of Plymouth for the last 13 years in a number of related roles.

Chloe currently manages the University of Plymouth’s flagship Maritime Cyber Security research project the Cyber-SHIP Lab, a multi-million pound facility funded by Research England & UoP in partnership with key industry stakeholders.

The Cyber-SHIP Lab offers a unique opportunity to address global maritime cyber security challenges and Chloe works to engage industry with the research by creating and managing relationships with regional, national and international stakeholders in order to build resilience in the sector as a whole. She is also the Marine & Maritime Solutions Consultant for the South West Centre of Excellence for Satellite Applications and has links into the Satellite Applications Catapult network.

11 15 – 11 35 Overview of South West Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications (SWCoESA) & Space-Enabled Innovations | Conrad Gillespie | Centre Manager

Conard Gillespie manages the South West Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications (SWCoESA), which is part of the national Space ecosystem established by the Satellite Applications Catapult & UK Space Agency.

SWCoESA partnership includes the Universities of Exeter, Falmouth & Plymouth, and Conrad focuses on helping innovators and researchers to develop and commercialise space technologies and satellite applications, across wide-ranging sectors, including Health, Marine & Maritime, Mining, and Natural Capital.

By engaging with an expansive range of stakeholders, Conrad and his team build robust collaborations across industries and academia, in order to create Space-enabled technological opportunities, leverage scientific research, generate value and drive impact for regional growth.

11 35 – 11 55 Spirent and how ICS/SCADA knowledge can be used in maritime industry | Aleksander Gorkowienko | Senior Managing Consultant

Spirent Communications is a global company providing innovative test, measurement, analytics and assurance solutions for next-generation devices and networks worldwide. The company’s portfolio includes products and services for testing modern high-speed networks, positioning (PNT) and mobile network infrastructure, with expanding focus on cybersecurity and 5G. SecurityLabs is a team within Spirent specialized in hardware, IoT and industrial cybersecurity. We are going to highlight our competence in ICS/SCADA and make parallels to how this knowledge can be used in the maritime industry.

Aleksander Gorkowienko is an experienced cyber security advisor, researcher, cyber security advocate and trainer with more than 20 years of practice, working in numerous industry sectors. He is a senior consultant and a part of the vibrant Spirent SecurityLabs team, developing their services and capabilities in the UK and across the EMEA and APAC regions. Aleksander’s primary focus is helping to build corporate cyber resilience through understanding and implementing cyber security as a continuous process.

11 55 – 12 15 All things ‘cyber’ from the BMT perspective | Rob Scales, Victoria Kotwicki & Jake Rigby

Rob is an experienced cyber security practitioner who has a strong background in operational cyber and threat intelligence from several years working with the Armed Forces and MOD partners. Inclusive of working in the Armed Forces Rob has been working as a Senior Cyber Security Consultant for the past 2 years.

Victoria is a Graduate Cyber Consultant with 2 years combined experience working as a Cyber Security Analyst and Software Engineer.

Jake is the Research and Development Lead, responsible for the portfolio management of internal research projects in defence, covering everything from cyber security to ship design. He is a chartered engineer and Member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects. Jake is also responsible for Academic Engagement at BMT.
